The Moreton Side Table began as an exploration of rhythm and restraint — how traditional furniture forms can be refined and carried into contemporary Australian homes.
At the centre of the design is the bobbin leg, a form with deep roots in traditional furniture making. Historically turned by hand, bobbin legs were valued for their strength and repetition, appearing on everyday tables and seating where durability and proportion mattered most. Their appeal lies in their clarity; an honest expression of structure, material, and making.
Our interpretation draws from this tradition while refining the form for a more contemporary setting. The repeated rounded profile has been softened and re-proportioned, allowing the table to feel grounded without becoming heavy, familiar without feeling referential.
Alongside its furniture lineage, the Moreton Side Table is informed by the natural environment closer to home. The cadence of the turned leg echoes the form of Neptune’s Necklace, a native seaweed found along the shoreline of Moreton Bay. Shaped by tide and movement, its chain of rounded forms offered a quiet reference point during the design process.
This dual influence of traditional furniture making and local coastal ecology, gives the piece both its name and character. The result is a table that feels settled rather than styled, shaped by repetition, material, and place.
Made to order in our Brisbane studio, oak plays a central role in the design. Chosen for its strength and warmth, the timber carries a long history in furniture making while responding naturally to contemporary interiors. Each piece is finished to allow the grain and variation of the wood to remain visible, ensuring the table develops character over time.
The Moreton Side Table was released from the studio in September 2025, marking its transition from design development into production and its inclusion within our Signature Collection.
Designed for everyday use, the Moreton Side Table reflects our ongoing interest in furniture that endures grounded in tradition, informed by place, and made to be lived with.
